Your dog's health is very important. if he isn't healthy, his life could be in jeopardy. It's your job to keep your dog healthy and happy, in order to lengthen his life and to ensure it is a life without pain, disease, or illness. There are a few things you should be doing in order to keep up with your dog's health and wellness. Read on for a few helpful tips to keep your dog healthy.

1. Take Your Dog to the Veterinarian

Take your dog to the veterinarian every year for his checkups and for a thorough examination of your dog. These visits are very important to your dog's health. Your dog gets his vaccinations or booster shots at these appointments. The vet will check your dog for heartworms, signs of swelling around the stomach, issues in their eyes or ears, and problems with their teeth and gums. You can contact an animal hospital to learn more about common checkups and whether they can check for additional issues or concerns.

2. Feed Your Dog a Proper Diet

Make sure you are feeding your dog a proper diet of dog food. The type of food you give to your dog depends on the size of your dog and how old your dog is. Naturally, puppies should get puppy food, active dogs should get food for active dogs, and senior dogs should get senior dog food. If you give your dog treats, make sure they are healthy treats. Never give your dog people food or table scraps, even if they are meat, as they can contain too many preservatives that aren't good for dogs.

3. Give Your Dog Fresh Water

Make sure you are giving your dog fresh water in his bowl throughout the day. Clean your dog's bowl often and give him fresh, cool water to drink and to stay hydrated. If your dog has accidents during the day when you aren't home to let him out, you can limit how much you give your dog during the day, but give him more when you're at home.

You need to take care of your dog and keep up with his wellness and overall health. It's your responsibility to take care of your dog and to ensure he has a long and happy life. Contact local animal hospitals soon if you need additional tips about how to keep your dog healthy.
